Our Story

Enchanté

We are Kathy and Laurent Dedieu, owners of Farine Bakery. We met in Lokichochio, Kenya, as humanitarian aid workers on an assignment for Doctors Without Borders in what is today South Sudan. We connected immediately through our shared desire to help others, and our love of family, food, travel and adventure.

After over 20 years, and many travels, later we are excited to start our newest mission: bringing the delicious art of French bread making to the North Shore of Massachusetts! Kathy grew up on the North Shore, and loved swimming at its beaches with her family during the summer. Laurent is from the south west of France, where he spent his younger years playing rugby and climbing in the Pyrenees.

Although Kathy always appreciated good bread, it was not until she met Laurent that she fully developed her understanding of the complexity and art of French breadmaking. She is bringing her years of experience in project and team management to Farine, as well as her taste-testing skills 😊.

Laurent is certified professional boulanger in France (no small feat), with experience in busy Paris bakeries, as well as in a remote, wood-fired stone oven bakery in a village in the Pyrenees. This small, traditional bakery is where his passion for good bread was born when he was a child.

At Farine we use traditional French techniques, including patience and care, to make our breads, and include only the best local ingredients. We look forward to taking the time to get to know and serve both our customers and our community.

Bon Appetit! We look forward to meeting you!
